I made this video of my jeep’s left front wheel making the weird noise I was talking about. I was trying to remove the wheel but the lug nuts were so tight I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I’ll have to go ask my neighbors for some tools, yo.

Is the dust shield rubbing on the brake rotor?

I couldn’t remove the wheel so I couldn’t check properly :(... but a quick push with the iron made me think it was reasonably distant.

My vote is brake related. Gotta get the wheel off and look for uneven pad wear.

rock between dust shield and rotor?

PS: you might be able to just go to a tire shop and have them gun the nuts loose/re-tighten them more reasonably.

Get a 4 way lug wrench. The one you got it’s for roadside emergencies changing tires, but wouldn’t do you any good.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Custom-Accessories-84441-14-4-Way-Lug-Wrench/20552693?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222228016775578&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=51780382511&wl4=pla-83194008311&wl5=9022875&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=20552693&wl13=&veh=sem

The 4-way you can push & pull on it.

I gave the shield a nice push with the iron (strategically avoiding the rotor) and nothing fell out of it/sounded weirdly.

Once I can remove the tyre I’ll inspect the rotor.

Yeah, I’ll go to the local tyre center over at costco.

I know its for emergencies, but if it was an emergency I’d be as screwed as those lug nuts are to the wheel!

Might be debris in the caliper/pad area, or a pad clip that’s come loose and is contacting the rotor. Do you hear it while driving? It ALMOST just sounds like normal pad skimming the rotor. Could be normal, could be the sign of a slightly stuck caliper.

It does that sound when driving, it intensifies after highway driving or hilly driving (hot wheels) one of the theories is that the lug nuts are too tight and wrapped the rotor (saw it in another post)

You need a torque multiplier, possibly a truck one.

When you take the wheel off, I’d clean and lube the slide pins for the brake caliper. The caliper might not be retracting all the way because of dirty slide pins.

I also I’d test for a collapsed brake hose. I forgot the exact procedure, but IIRC you lift up the wheel and spin it like you did, then pump the brakes a few time and spin it again to see if there’s more resistance.

It said up to 1200nm of torque... I stood atop the iron and jumped, now I think I produced between 900-1100nm and it didn’t budge at all.

I just checked the detail print on the mech’s invoice... instead of changing the brake fluid and bleeding the system, dude just “added some brake fluid when he saw it low”

Look, I live amongst apes...

As I said you might need a truck one, that’ll get any lug nut off.

Gotta love the “mechanics” that say “I can feel the torques from an impact in muh hands.” They should use a torque stick, bare minimum.

Right. That’s why I mentioned it wouldn’t have done you any good. A 4-way is good to have as it fits my 4 different cars on one tool. I also use a breaker bar and appropriate socket.

Good luck.
